Baltimore Jewelry Center Archive Project Intern

We are currently seeking an intern to assist with a variety of archive building and management tasks, including but not limited to documenting artwork, compiling, labeling and organizing files and information, inputting images and information into an archive platform, testing functions of the archive, creating collateral for launching the archive, and art handling. The ideal candidate is passionate about metalsmithing, art jewelry, or craft as well as information accessibility, and has experience with product photography and/or archive systems. In exchange for 6 hours a week of service to the archive and the studio, the intern will receive a tuition waiver for the class of their choice and unlimited rental for the duration of the course.
Responsibilities
Support the creation and implementation of the BJC’s Community Archive Project. This includes photographing work in the archive, recording and processing information about work, and testing functions of the archive, as well as other related tasks as necessary.
Support the BJC staff in the gallery and the studio. You’ll be assisting in the gallery, as well as studio tasks related to the gallery.

Experience with digital archive systems.

Baltimore Jewelry Center Teaching Fellow
Location: Baltimore, MD

Job Start Date: Late August 2023
The BJC is offering one three-year teaching fellowship; start date August 2023. In addition to gaining teaching experience, the selected fellow will develop pedagogical skills, build leadership experience, receive mentorship from experienced educators, and play an influential part of a vibrant educational community.
The ideal candidate is passionate about metalsmithing and art jewelry as well as teaching and learning. They should be eager to engage with students in a variety of settings, from the studio to community events. The candidate should have a strong background in and understanding of metalsmithing and or art jewelry. They will work closely with a small programming team to help plan classes and workshops for the BJC and our partners. Classes at the BJC follow a quarterly calendar and fellows will have the opportunity to teach at least 2 classes or workshops per session.
Applicants should have an MFA in metals and/or jewelry, or a BFA in metals and/or jewelry and work experience (in teaching or other aspects of the field). Some prior teaching experience is highly preferred. The ideal candidate has a strong desire to teach; specifically in a community-based learning environment and is knowledgeable of current trends, conversations, and issues happening within the field.

Preferred qualifications and experience:
Background in metalsmithing/jewelry (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Metals/Jewelry highly preferred, or comparable experience)
A strong desire and propensity for teaching and learning
Problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills
Demonstrated commitment to your own art-making/studio practice
Diversity of skills and techniques that can be applied to teaching and modeling in a studio space
Fellows receive:
Teaching wages competitive with university adjunct pay
Salary will range from $15,000 to $25,000 depending on the number of classes taught each session (contingent on enrollment)
The fellow will be offered at least 2 classes per session, with four sessions offered each year.
$5,000/year stipend (separate from teaching wages)
Connection to other institutions who are seeking instructors
Instructors often have opportunities to teach credit or non-credit classes at nearby colleges, such as Towson University and/or Montgomery County Community College
Opportunity for additional part-time work at the BJC (studio manager substitute coverage)
24 hour studio access at the Baltimore Jewelry Center
Semi-private bench in the studio and a dedicated locker for storage
A solo exhibition in the BJC gallery and an artist talk at the culmination of the fellowship
Mentorship and support provided by Baltimore Jewelry Center faculty and staff
Fellows will participate in a process of observation and evaluation that will help them to hone their teaching skills throughout the course of the fellowship
Teaching experience within a vibrant education environment
Experience working in a nonprofit
The fellow will be part of academic planning meetings, will participate in professional development with other instructors and staff, and will be given opportunities to assist with special educational events, such as our annual symposium and other community outreach events.
Access to a creative community of peers
Responsibilities:
Teach a minimum of 2 classes per session (contingent on enrollment), which will include:
Content Creation. Create and/or edit worksheets, handouts, presentations and materials lists
Student Support. Answer questions, brainstorm and work one on one with students to help them succeed
Class Organization. Develop class structure that has appropriate momentum and flow and allows for student success
Develop a culminating solo exhibition in the BJC gallery with an accompanying artist talk
Attend and participate in Baltimore Jewelry Center events (when possible), including exhibition openings, artist talks, the annual symposium
Represent the Baltimore Jewelry Center within the broader jewelry and metals field
Administrative tasks
Attend academic planning meetings
Participate in professional development with other instructors and staff
Ongoing ideation, discussion, and implementation of programs with staff and other instructors

Baltimore Jewelry Center Instructor

We’re seeking an instructor who is passionate about metalsmithing and art jewelry and loves engaging with students in a variety of settings from the studio to community events. You’ll need a strong background in metalsmithing or art jewelry. You will work closely with a very small programming team to plan classes and workshops for the BJC and our partners.
Responsibilities.
Content Creation. You’ll be creating and/or editing worksheet, handouts, presentations and materials lists
Student Support. Answering questions, brainstorming and working one on one with students helps them succeed
Class Organization. Class flow and productivity to important to our students, the instructor needs to be on time an prepared.

This job includes non-traditional hours (nights and weekends). There will be occasional off-site educational events with partnering groups like the Walters Art Museum. Attendance at onsite events, like exhibition openings and community potlucks, is strongly encouraged as your schedule allows.

Baltimore Jewelry Center Intern

We are currently seeking an intern to assist with a variety of studio management and maintenance tasks, including but not limited to answering the door and greeting students and visitors, leading tours of the space, assisting students and renters with their work, running class, rental, and retail sales, helping with social media, and general tool maintenance. The ideal candidate is passionate about metalsmithing and art jewelry and loves engaging with people. In exchange for 6 hours a week of service to the studio, the intern will receive a tuition waiver for the class of their choice and unlimited rental for the duration of the course.
Responsibilities
Support students and renters. This means everything from answering questions and assisting students and renters in the studio.
Studio Management. You’ll be maintaining studio systems, inventory and keeping the studio organized and tidy. That means prepping supplies, monitoring supply use, logging renters’ and students’ studio usage, and conducting commercial transactions with students and renters for classes and bench rental.
